3 Course Outline Review Format:
Lecture class discussion group presentations final exam Text: Verzuh, 3rd Ed. “The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management.” Grading Individual Project: 30% Group Project: 30% Participation : 20% Final Exam: 20%

4 Individual Projects The project can be on any topic
Students must get instructor approval by date indicated in course outline Next week’s class Prefer you send it by Short description of the topic title and topic description (maximum 200 words) Projects have 2 components: chart and plan Project charters are marked out of 10% and shall be no longer than 1 page. Project plans will marked out of the remaining amount Specifications for the plans are detailed in the course outline

5 Group Projects Group Projects have 2 components: Presentation and Report Students can develop their group memberships on their own and must submit a short project description to the instructor by date indicated in the project plan Groups make presentations to the rest of the class (executive committee) to initiate a project in a company. The duration of the presentations will be decided later in the course based on class size Time will be given in class to work on group projects

Audience participation will be key to this course’s success You must spend time reading the book I don’t read you the book I summarize parts that I think are important, but you are responsible for reading the chapters Final Exam Prep Follow along in class Participate in the class discussion Read the book Ask questions

7 General Course Approach
Managing your expectations: The course may deviate from the course outline. I try to stick to it, but you should consider it more of a guide than the exact approach we’ll follow We may cover chapters faster than planned, we may go slower. Group Presentations Time for project presentations may be more or less than what is in the outline. Depends on class size, number of groups Students’ participation in the group project is mandatory (no free loaders) A couple of nights to be aware of I may be late (but trying not to be late) for class on Jan 13. I will be late on Jan 20, so we will have a revised start time for this one night only of 7:15pm, but the course will end at the regular time

8 A little about me: Graduated from the U of Manitoba in 1990
Spent 8 years working as an engineer/project manager Graduated from the U of Ottawa in 1998 MBA program. Acquired Project Management Professional (PMP) designation in 2003 Member of the Professional Engineering Associations of Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba. Worked in project management experience in the manufacturing, Aerospace, High-tech software and Health Care sectors. Director at Corel Corporation for the WordPerfect Office product line. Senior Manager at Intuit for QuickBooks Senior Manager at Alberta Health and Wellness working on Electronic Health Record I recently sold a small advertising business Currently part-time PhD student at the U of A studying how computing technology affects clinical processes in healthcare. Currently the general manager of the Sherwood Park PCN
