1 Unit 2 Transitions

2 In dealing with problems in your day-to-day life there are three types of situation in which you may need some outside help. One of these is when you can’t identify what is troubling you. You may be suffering from a symptom that bothers you a great deal—anxiety, insomnia, or depression, for example—but you find yourself unable to determine what causes it. Another situation is when you have an idea of what your problem is, but can’t figure out how to solve it. For instance, you know that you’re having trouble with your parents because you fight with them almost every time you see them, but you can’t find a way to stop this misery.

3 your problem it In the third type of situation you may have identified your problem and you may even have an idea of how to solve it, but you find yourself unable to do so. Let’s say that you’re working and going to school at the same time, and many nights you’re working and going to school at the same time, and many nights you’re so tired you can’t sleep. You take a sleeping pill but then have trouble getting started in the morning. So you resort to more pills, different pills. These enable you to get through the day, but you’re still hyped up at night—and so on. Here you know that you should break this cycle but you can’t seem to do it.
