1 Logical Network Diagram
CPIT 375 Data Network Designing and Evaluation Logical Network Diagram

2 Outline: Network Diagrams Logical vs. Physical network diagram
What is logical network diagram Practices

3 Network Diagrams Network Diagrams created through two phases:
Logical Diagram (Architecture) Physical Diagram (Designing) Developing a physical and logical diagram of your network will help you organize the information you gather in an understandable and intuitive manner.

4 Logical vs. Physical network diagram
A physical network diagram shows the physical connections of network components, while a logical one shows how they relate and communicate with each other.

5 Logical Network Diagram
Before any physical connection is made or any software is installed, the network should have an architecture that is both efficient and clear to tell the engineer as well as the user where each component will appear in the network. A logical network diagram illustrates the network architecture of a group of interconnected computers and other devices, such as printers, modems, switches, routers, and even mobile devices.  This is why the creation of networking diagrams is often done with care and with much thought.

6 Logical Network Diagram
Logical diagrams are vital for troubleshooting or for planning changes. You are able to plan changes quickly and accurately. As well as, troubleshooting is easier than before.

7 Logical Network Diagram
Network diagrams do not have to be complicated, and they can just be made using simple shapes with short but descriptive notes or labels. A flow diagram works great because it shows the flow of tasks and data between network components with the use of directional arrows. Tree diagrams may also help to show the hierarchy between network components and tasks.

8 Drawing the Logical Network Diagram
Good logical diagrams consist of the following information: Subnets Network address and subnet mask Devices Such as Routers, Firewalls, VPN devices Most important servers (Such as DNS servers, web server etc.) Their IP -addresses Logical interfaces Routing protocol information

9 Drawing the Logical Network Diagram
There are a number of network diagram creation software applications available that assist you to professionally draw the network diagrams Edraw Max MS visio Opnet Packet trancer Smart draw
