Overview Achievements / short flashback on 2004 Update Resource Situation Overview Construction Schedule Detailed Plans for 2005 Installation Schedule (as shown in Nov. 04) Forecast on Expenses for 2005 Next Steering Meeting

Flashback 2004 Mixer Module is nearly finished; 3 months delay bco Pressure Regulator; finished end of April. Pump Racks construction is ongoing (60-70% completed); finished by June (up to schedule). ATLAS Distribution; altogether 30 Racks, construction is ongoing (60-70% completed) (up to ATLAS Schedule) TPC debugging finished; installation at point 5 is ongoing (see Stefan’s talk)

Summary 2004 2004 was a year with important progress for the construction of the gas systems. Work flow has considerably increased compared to previous years. (Component cleaning and analysis processes have improved a lot.) Internal Organization –FSU unit defined and installed. Major changes for work organization and for the team leader. –Protvino Team increased from 1 to 3 persons. –Quality control has become systematic and the results are encouraging. New cleaning facility Bldg. Xxx is operational since one month.

Developmental areas QC of modules after construction and cabling. Plan: use MTF database for Workflow (QC) and later for maintenance. Difficulties to handle the huge workflow in the lab. (number of components, number of racks in parallel,…) (We will be still at the critical load for the next 12 months.) Calibration of flow cells was too slow, but going fine now. Though, debugging and tuning is still taking a lot of time.

Present Resource Situation 1.Construction and Installation Manpower PROTVINO team 5 people FSU 5 people 2.Lab Space: –Labs in Bldg’s 155 and 167 are operational –New Lab in Bldg. 216 will be ready end of March. Pipe workerCabler 41 41 (Since yesterday) The department has given high priority and SMI group has worked very fast

Work Plan Overview Construction 200620072005 Installation Commissioning Main serial construction should end autumn 2006 ALICE TPC Pilot commissioning multi channel system Main commissioning phase Installation block for block

Objectives 2005 Finnish Mixer Module: by April Finnish Pump –Mechanics by April/Mai –Chassis and Cabling around June Humidifier Module –New module 2 racks to built. –Chassis and Controls covered by Xavier. Exhaust Module start by April ATLAS ID Flushing systems (finish < November) Rack Construction (1)

Objectives 2005 Distribution: –ATLAS (Muon) finish all racks < May. Including calibrated flowcells –ATLAS TRT Distribution (deliver Racks < July) –Build ALICE and LHCb during second half of 2005. Rack Construction (2) Target: Finish all distribution racks by the end of 2005

Objectives 2005 We would like to make a number of control chassis, i.e. Pump, Exhaust, Humidifier, Purifier, CC-Module. (to be produced outside) The Hardware Modules made in 2005 need to be cabled: Distribution, Pump, Exhaust, Humidifier. The Distribution read-out: –Large scale test of ELMB’s, Webmass (new interface to CAN bus) The cabling layouts for the experimental sites have to be made and communicated to the experiments. Electrical Control Chassis and Cabling … and this starts toady, see talk of Steven

Overview Construction Schedule New Advanced …still to come Delayed

Installation Phase (1) (Managed by Mar Capeans) A new phase with new difficulties: –Safety requirements (work permits, equipment, etc.) –Need more tools and equipment that stay on-site. –Rationalize work organisation bco. distance to the sites; –Need a 2 nd car for the Section. Propose: cost sharing 700 CHF/y/experiment. Note: currently we can effort to work only on one site at a time.

Installation Phase (2) Installation should be organized by Zones: –ALICE TPC is pilot installation –Generally UX caverns come first, rack connections of multi channel systems are handled by piping contracts of the experiments. (example CMS) –SG and US areas: should be installed as complete areas where possible Plan: Start with ALICE TPC then may be CMS SG –Apart from some exceptions commissioning of closed loop systems will be done in 2007. –Flushing of Open circuits can be possible before.

Proposal Installation Planning (1) ATLAS: UX racks in time in 2005 Main Commiss. in 2007 CMS : UX racks are done Do SG in 2005 Closed Loop Commissioning As shown in November 2004

Proposal Installation Planning (2) ALICE: TPC in commis. early 2005 Single Pass Syst.’s Mid. 2006 TRD, TOF in 2007 LHCb: Muon and OT Distribution early 2006 RICH’s pending TRD As shown in November 2004

Installation Schedule The schedule is not rock solid, adjustments and corrections to optimize the work flow will be necessary. Arbitration must be done in the Steering Meeting

Steering Meeting / 6 months Providing: Full status report on the project Cost review Schedule review Status of production rate. Next Meeting: Date to be scheduled ( June 2005 ? )
