5 Injecting Paraphernalia New “How to Avoid Hepatitis and HIV” leaflet and poster Filters, spoons and citric acid now available free in addition to needles, syringes, sterile wipes and sharps bins Roll out of one hit packs Heroin shortage

6 Educational Interventions Break the Cycle taken forward nationally Locally embedded in Drugs Action Rolling this out across Grampian Investigating other interventions

7 Patient Involvement Two sessions Attended by select few despite good publicity in media First session raised issues that we took forward and reported back on Different approach for future session

8 Workforce Training Initial focus on GPs and Practice Nurses –Others included pharmacists, substance misuse, voluntary organisations Rolling out to key hospital wards, Dentists, social work amongst others

9 Testing Peter Brunt Centre Dr Gray’s HMP Aberdeen Buchanhaven Pharmacy Rosebank Kessock Clinic Drugs Action Turning Point Scotland Peterhead Turning Point Scotland Elgin

10 Official Clinic Opening

11 Clinical Service Increased fully trained nursing compliment Initiated 122 patients on treatment in 2010/11 Care and support at clinic; Dietetics, Substance Misuse, Citizens Advice Bureau

12 Laboratory developments Funding has been provided to develop local PCR service Local team working hard to validate their testing method Local Service expected from August 2011 Dried Blood Spot Testing

13 Finger prick test Perform Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV tests on the blood spots Currently performing this in the specialist clinic as a pilot Roll out to other services –Issues around obtaining results and training need to be addressed

14 Follow-up Project Primary care based project Looking at all those ever tested positive for Hepatitis C Practices then invited to refer patients never referred, confirm ongoing virus, or retest those undertaking risk behaviours

15 Future Plans Local Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Strategy Budget Service modelling Prison service Public Awareness MCN Accreditation
