Styrofoam Stats Styrofoam is mostly un-economical to recycle or otherwise process environmentally unless in massive quantities, and can be lethal to any bird or sea creature that swallows significant quantities.

Styrofoam Stats US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): “each year Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam cups. Even 500 years from now, the foam coffee cup you used this morning will be sitting in a landfill

What can you recycle? Plastic bottles  Most plastics can be recycled  Look for the number on the bottom of the plastic container to see if it is possible to be recycled! Soda cans Paper products that are “clean” Cardboard Newspapers

What can you do about it Bring your own mug to work! Use paper instead of Styrofoam! Recycle paper (that is not contaminated)! Print with both sides! And MORE!

What can you do at home? Bring bags to the supermarket Return Styrofoam crates/egg carton crates to the supermarket Set up recycling bins at home to collect items Think before you buy  Pick packaged products wisely  The more packaging on the product – the more packaging ends up in the garbage!

Recycling at Home

What will you do? 1 thing you are willing to try this year

Summary Look at what you are about to buy  Think about how much will end up going in the trash! Think before throwing!  Think to yourself: can this be recycled or reused in any way?  Determine what it’s made out of OR look for the recycling symbol on the bottom of the product Do your part and help to educate others!  Recycling is only the first step – but it can make a HUGE impact on the environment in a positive way!
