He wants to show that the developed nations are taking advantage of the developing countries like Africa in the name of globalisation. He, thus, drew the developed nations bigger, smiling and eager to take on developing countries like Africa.

He wants to show that the developing countries are tied down with their own set of problems and thus are not ready for globalisation. He, thus, drew Africa being tied down with conflicts, illiteracy and bad governance.

The poor countries are aware that they will be courting death if they ‘fight’ globalisation. He, thus, drew the question mark using the symbol of a skull which suggests deadly /fatal.

He wants to show that in globalising, there will be winners and losers. The cartoon shows the countries having a competition. In a competition, someone is bound to win or lose.

Globalisation is harmful to developing countries as they do not have the ‘power’ or resources to compete with the developed world

Source E can be useful as it tells me the benefits of globalisation eg boost economy. This is evident from horizon of opportunities’. Therefore, I find it useful as I know that it has yielded positive results. Similarly, source B states that, ‘globalization enables developing countries to engage with the rest of the world and in so doing, increase their economic growth. Since, both sources share the same idea, I am convinced and able to make a decision that globalisation is important. Thus, I find Source E useful.

Source E is not useful because it did not reflect specific impact of globalisation eg reduces poverty and improves standard of living. It merely gives a general view of globalization which is not supported by statistical evidence unlike source D which states very clearly what has happened over the two decades from 1981 to 2001 to the number of people surviving on $1 or less per day. This helps me to understand better the importance of globalisation rather than source E.
