® Making Location Count Copyright © 2011 Open Geospatial Consortium Hydrology DWG Meeting Surface Water IE – Use Case 1 76th OGC Technical Committee Bonn, Germany Carsten Heidmann March 2, 2011 Co-sponsored by Sponsored and hosted by United Nations Environment Programme, with support from UN-SPIDER Bonn Office

OGC ® Agenda Overview Update on Use Case 1 Status –Servers –Clients Open Challenges –General –Data from data collector to next level Next Steps

OGC ® Overview Aim: Test WaterML2.0 with surface water data By disseminating surface water data from Rhin - Rhein - between Germany & France to all participants Using OGC SOS, WFS, WMS web services and WaterML2.0 encoding Demonstrate cross border surface water data interoperability Coordination: Dietmar Mothes (DLZ-IT) and Carsten Heidmann (disy) Participants: France: IOW-SANDRE Germany: DLZ-IT, disy, Kisters and 52°North

OGC ® Update Biweekly phone conferences (14 until today) Interaction with WaterML2.0 group Mailing list: sw.ie.case1@lists.opengeospatial.org TWiki: http://external.opengis.org/twiki_public/bin/view/HydrologyD WG/UseCase1CrossborderDataExchange Focus since Sydney on consolidation –SOS2.0 –WaterML2.0 –WebClient (52north)

OGC ® Status - Servers SOS Service Sandre (52°North): http://services.sandre.eaufrance.fr/52nSOSv3/sos –4 test stations with actual data –Rhine stations not yet available due to restructuring in french hydrographic agency SOS-Service DLZ-IT (52°North) –Real-time data for german gauges SOS-Service DLZ-IT (KISTERS) –(to be added next week) KISTERS Web Interoperability Solution –(serves SOS A,B,C, O&M, WML2, WaterOneFlow/WML1, KIQS) Development Server Implementations: 52north: Implementation of WaterML 2.0 support 52north: Support of the Hydrology SOS profile 52north: New server for demonstration will be available soon KISTERS?

OGC ® Status Clients SWE Client Service Center IT WSV (52°North): –http://sensorweb.demo.52north.org/ThinSweClient2.0/Client.html –Status: Improvement of the client (enhanced usability and stability) SOS client version is close to a final state Ways to support WaterML 2.0 are evaluated KISTERS WISKI/TSM (can consume SOS/O&M) GRDC: http://kiwis.kisters.de/KiWIS/ Development Client Implementations: 52north: Implementation of WaterML 2.0 support 52north: Support of the Hydrology SOS profile KISTERS?

OGC ® Open Challenges Implementation of SOS Profile Type C in all servers Implementation of –WaterML2.0 (when stable) –SOS2.0 (when available) → In server and client components Real-time data availability Communication between (sensor device) data collector and next level (see next slides)

OGC ® Data transmission from measuring stations Currently not within scope –WaterML2 teleconference Oct.15th 2010: „WaterML2 is pitched further up the 'stack': inter system communication […] not looking at device level“ But … it’s generally beneficial to have –a standard data format and protocol –no media disruption So … a possible solution could be a –lightweight profile for data transmission purpose where only the core parts are mandatory –appropriate lightweight SOS profile to query measuring stations → no changes in the existing profiles required Suggestion Peter Fitch: Move this discussion to Delft workshop and discuss approaches, possible solution could be another use case

OGC ® Next Steps Harmonization of SOS structure - ongoing Agreement from Toulouse (September 21st): use SOS Type C Interoperability Test of Client and Server Components Installation of WaterML2.0/SOS2.0 components when available Feedback to WaterML2.0 SWG, Hydrology DWG

OGC ® Thank You DLZ-IT BMVBS Carsten Heidmann Dietmar Mothes Sylvain Grellet Simon Jirka Arne Broering Michael Natschke Stefan Fuest Christian Michl
