Poetry Project by Jonathon Rice, Drew Whalen, Joey O'Brien, and Danny Aeschliman

The River Merchants Wife (part 1) by Ezra Pound: While my hair was still cut straight across my forehead I played about the front gate, pulling flowers. You came by on bamboo stilts, playing horse, You walked about my seat, playing with blue plums. And we went on living in the village of Chokan: Two small people, without dislike or suspicion. At fourteen I married My Lord you. I never laughed, being bashful. Lowering my head, I looked at the wall. Called to, a thousand times, I never looked back.

The River Merchant's Wife (part 2): At fifteen I stopped scowling, I desired my dust to be mingled with yours Forever and forever and forever. Why should I climb the look out? At sixteen you departed, You went into far Ku-to-en, by the river of swirling eddies, And you have been gone five months. The monkeys make sorrowful noise overhead.

You dragged your feet when you went out. By the gate now, the moss is grown, the different mosses, Too deep to clear them away! The leaves fall early this autumn, in wind. The paired butterflies are already yellow with August Over the grass in the West garden; They hurt me. I grow older. If you are coming down through the narrows of the river Kiang, Please let me know beforehand, And I will come out to meet you As far as Cho-fu-Sa. The River Merchants Wife (part 3):

The River Merchant's Wife Summary young wife husband dies she weeps about his death

"The River Merchant's Wife" Analysis To us, this poem speaks about a wife's love for her husband and how much she misses him and wants to see him again. She goes on saying how the husband left and she hasn't seen him in a long time.

Ezra Pound Ezra Pound was born 1885 in Hailey, Idaho. Pound encouraged poets to forget the past techniques and poetry ideas and to "make it new". He died in 1972 in Clinton, New York. When he only supported Hitler and Mousillini's political views he was arrested for treason and spent 25 days in a steel cage which caused him to have mental breakdown. He then spent 12 years in a psychiatric hospital.

In a Station of the Metro by William Carlos Williams: The apparition of these faces in the crowd; Petals on a wet, black bough.

"In the Station of the Metro" summary Many faces A lot of people

William Carlos Williams Born in Rutherford, NJ in 1883. Died in Rutherford, NJ in 1963. Williams, like Pound, usedprimarily Imagism and modernism in his poetry. He was primarily a doctor, but he was also a successful poet at the same time.He did however disagree with the poetic values of T.S. and Ezra Pound. His poetry was influenced mainly by European culture and traditions.

The Red Wheelbarrow by William Carlos Williams: so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens.

The Red Wheelbarrow Summary Sounds like a kid talking about his wheel barrow sounds like it's on a farm very dependent about his/her wheel barrow

The Red Wheelbarrow Analysis Every kid loves something, or has something close to them. In this poem, it seems like a kid is talking about his love for this wheelbarrow and how much he depends on it.

"This is Just to Say" by William Carlos Williams I have eaten the plums that were in the icebox and which you were probably saving for breakfast Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold

This is Just to Say summary The person took something that wasn't his. Asks for forgiveness Says the plums were good

This is Just to Say analysis This poem is just like when a kid takes a cookie without asking because he or she can't resist, and is guilty about it. So that kid asks for forgiveness from his parents, but still says that they were good.
