Equivocation, Accent, Distinction Without a Difference, Quoting out of Context Ambiguity fallacies
2
Equivocation The fallacy of equivocation is committed when a term is used in two or more different senses within a single argument. Also know as: homonym
3
Example All banks are beside rivers. Therefore, the financial institution where I deposit my money is beside a river.
4
Distinction without a difference The assertion that a position is different from another position based on the language when, in fact, both positions are exactly the same -- at least in practice or practical terms. Exception: sometimes there can be minute differences with degrees of meaning or measurement
5
Bre: What is the difference between a dodge challenger and a Chevy corvette? Chandler: Six and one half- dozen.
6
Accent fallacies that depend on where the stress is placed in a word or sentence. AKA: sarcasm Mr. Trubitt’s opinion: Sarcasm is not a bad thing; except when it is overdone.
7
Example John: I heard Ethan jumped off a bridge Mr. Trubitt: Yeah I could imagine Ethan jumping off a bridge.
