2 In this presentation you will find out about the safety of a Bunsen Burner, and what we use them for. I will also show you about the dangers of using a Bunsen Burner. I hope you will find this information helpful and interesting.

3 We use Bunsen burners in science because they can heat up materials, and substances. It was invented by Robert Wilhelm Bunsen, and named after him.

5 When setting up a Bunsen burner you will need to do these following instructions, so you don’t get hurt or burnt. 1. Get all the equipment you will need for using a Bunsen burner and another for the experiment 2.Get your Bunsen burner 3. Put your Bunsen burner on the safety mat you have already got. 4. If you need to use a Tripod and Gauze then place them in the correct place on the Bunsen burner. continued…….>

6 5.Attach your burner to the gas pipe and make sure there is no holes or splits so the gas wouldn’t escape out. 6.Make sure the Bunsen burner is on the correct flame; if you are not burning anything then it will need to be on the yellow flame, and if you are ready to burn then put it onto the blue flame. 7. Once you have finished using the Bunsen burner, put the yellow flame on, and turn the gas pipe off. 8. Put any equipment you have used away, but leave your Bunsen burner alone as it will be hot.

7 When using a Bunsen burner, you will need to know about the 3 different flames. YELLOW FLAME: This is the Safety Flame, you use this when your are not using the Bunsen burner. BLUE FLAME: This is what we use to heat up things. ROARING FLAME: This last flame is what we use when we need a hotter flame then the blue and yellow.

8 1.Put your chair back and take off your blazer. 2.Put on your apron and goggles. 3.Tie your hair back if it is long. 4.Set up your Bunsen burner and any other equipment. 5.Attach your Bunsen to the gas, and make sure it is on. 6.Light your burner and put it onto the correct flame, the teacher gives you. 7.When you have finished pack up any equipment you have been using. 8.But leave your Bunsen burner as it will be hot.

9 Always wear an apron If told wear goggles Push your chair back Take of your blazer Tie your hair back if you have long hair Clear your desk so there is no paper of equipment by the Bunsen burner Listen to instructions.
