15 Displacement of oxides
A more reactive metal can displace a less reactive one from a solution of one of its salts. Similar reactions take place with solid reactants such as the oxides. E.g. iron oxide + aluminium aluminium oxide + iron The more reactive aluminium wins the oxygen from the less reactive iron. This reaction gets so hot that the iron melts!
