The main weapon used was the bolt-action rifle. Fifteen rounds could be fired in a minute and a person could be killed 1,400 meters away. To make them work, machine guns needed 4 to 6 men, they also had to be on a flat surface. They had the fire-power of 100 guns.

Gas and torpedoes Weapons

The first time that the chlorine gas was used, it was by the German army at the battle of Ypres in The death is painful, you suffocate, it causes a burning sensation in the throat and chest pains. There is an inconvenient with the chlorine gas, the weather has to be right : if the wind is in the wrong direction, it could end up killing your own troops rather than the enemy. There is another gas, the mustard gas, it was the most deadly weapon used, it is colorless and takes 12 hours to take effect. The death can take up to 5 weeks and was painful too : blistering skin, vomiting, sore eyes, internal and external bleeding. The submarines used torpedoes, Germans used them to blow up ships carrying supplies from America to Britain.

ZEPPELIN AND PLANES Weapons

Zeppelin The Zeppelin, also known as blimp, was an airship used during the early part of the war in the shuttle raid, they carried machine guns and bombs. Tanks Tanks were used for the first time in World War One at the Battle of the Somme. The first tank was called 'Little Willie' and needed a crew of 3 soldiers. The maximum speed was 3mph and it couldn’t cross tranches. The more modern tank was developed before the end of the war. It could carry 10 men, had a revolving turret and could reach 4mph. Planes Planes were also used for the first time in World War One. At first, they were used to deliver bombs and for spying work but became fighter aircrafts armed with machine guns, bombs and sometimes cannons. “Dogfights” refer to the fights between two planes in the sky.
