2 Progress since May 2014 Task 2 – conductor YBCO tapes: Production and test of high Jc, high-field optimized Bruker tapes with record layer Jc values (very close to target performance); two tapes obtained from Bruker, Cable dummy lengths available ; new lengths requested for insulation, thermal properties and winding tests, Production of 10 m (mid october to KIT for punching qualification tests) + 90 m (mid december for FRESCA test and Feather-M0) of YBCO tape at Bruker, Procurement of alternative materials (SuperPower, Sunam, Fujikura, Sunam, SuperOX), 100 to 200 m each. BSSCO wire: Production of new lot (lot 87) of powders completed and characterization in progress ; this lot will be delivered to NHMFL and made into 3 billets (different grain dimensions and mix), 20 m of wire produced (lot 82) to be shipped at CERN for testing, Sample preparation for transverse loading on cable started (University of Twente) Philippe Fazilleau - SC5 meeting - 2 nd of october, 2014

3 Progress since May 2014 task 3 - magnets Block design with stacked tapes: 2D electromagnetic design achieved, 3D design on going, Twist region configuration studies on going, Winding test set up under study (tapes block transposition, twist region mechanical support) Aligned block with Roebel cable (baseline design): 2D and 3D electromagnetic design done, End optimization done, Mechanical model of the Roebel cable achieved, Dynamics effects study within Roebel cable on going (field harmonics calculation, remnant fields) Tests on Roebel cable insulation and mechanical reinforcement on going, Quench detection: pick-up coils have been designed and realized + copper loops added (eddy current effects) study performed Sub scale model Feather M0 for quench detection and coil production tests; design done (magnetic and quench propagation), 3 models foreseen (one in SS by the end of 2014, others in SC Roebel), SC cable mi-december, Feather M2 5 T insert; CAD design on going Philippe Fazilleau - SC5 meeting - 2 nd of october, 2014
