5 Artist Statement It is my goal as an educator to provide students with educational experiences through art that foster creativity, encourage higher level thinking, and teach problem solving skills. I want to help students take ownership in their education by involving them in personally relevant artwork. I hope to instill in students and my community the value of art education, by fostering an understanding of and appreciation for visual art both aesthetically and intellectually. I hope to educate students, parents, administration, and community members in the intellectual and practical values of creativity and the life skills taught and learned through art education. I believe it is important to create a classroom environment that welcomes exploration yet provides the structure necessary for consistent productivity. Educating students in the value of art education and applications throughout all aspects of life will help to intrinsically motivate students.
