4 How much and when? This will be calculated by reference to the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 & 11). All schools with 17 or more primary aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil. It will be included in the Additional Grant for Schools. Extended to 2016 and will hopefully continue until 2020.

5 What can I spend it on? Ring Fenced for ‘improving PE & Sport provision’ but schools will have the freedom to choose how they do this. Schools can pool money. Possible uses for the funding include: hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE new or additional Change4Life sport clubs paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs.

10 OFSTED judgements. Requires Improvement 3 Pupils are developing healthy lifestyles and physical fitness through physical education lessons and the additional adventurous and sporting activities provided. Pupils enjoy participating in activities such as dance, football, zumba and cross- country running. The curriculum provides an appropriate range of subjects and topics. Pupils enjoy the additional activities, such as clubs and educational visits. The primary school sport funding is being used effectively to extend pupils’ opportunities in areas such as dance and outdoor adventures. It is also used well for training to extend the skills of teachers and teaching assistants.

11 OFSTED judgements. Good 2 The new primary school sports funding is used well. It helps to ensure that all pupils are able to swim, and provides extra swimming lessons for pupils who have not achieved 25 metres. Local competitions in netball and football show pupils achieve well. Good 2 Sports premium funding has been used to provide both a specialist teacher of physical education and a teaching assistant trained in this subject area. The school has developed its work in gymnastics, in which it is already a leader, and with local secondary schools so that pupils maintain their skills in sports. The wide range of clubs and activities on offer enhances provision and helps to keep pupils fit and healthy.
