Daily Science Partner B Tuesday 08-16-11 Explain how the score board works – By Day – By Week – By Quarter – REMEMBER TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON YOUR TABLE

Daily Science Partner A Wednesday 08-17-11 Interview your partner and answer the question for them. Be prepared to share about your partner. – If you could have anything you wanted for supper, what would be on the menu? – What do you want to be doing ten years from now? – If you could invent or discover one new thing, what would it be? – ***REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!***

Daily Science Partner B Thursday 08-18-11 SpongeBob loves to garden and wants to grow lots of pink flowers for his pal Sandy. He bought a special Flower Power fertilizer to see if will help plants produce more flowers. He plants two plants of the same size in separate containers with the same amount of potting soil. He places one plant in a sunny window and waters it every day with fertilized water. He places the other plant on a shelf in a closet and waters it with plain water every other day. What did SpongeBob do wrong in this experiment? Explain.

Answer: SpongeBob did not provide both plants with the same amount of water and sunshine. In order to test the fertilizer correctly, both plants should have been placed in the sunny window and watered every day with the same amount of water. The only difference between the two plants should have been the fertilizer - one plant would be watered with the water with fertilizer and the other would be watered with plain water.

Daily Science Quiz Take a half sheet of paper Be sure to FULLY explain your answer. SpongeBob loves to garden and wants to grow lots of pink flowers for his pal Sandy. Explain.

Daily Science Partner A Monday 08-22-11 ***REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!*** Pots A and B have plain soil, bean seeds and the same amount of light. Pot B receives more water (see table). After 50 days the plants are measured. Based on the data, what is the correct conclusion?

Correct answer C. The amount of water affects the mass and the height.

Explain three ways this picture is related to science. Daily Science Partner A Wednesday 08-24-11 ***REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!***

Explain three ways this picture is related to science. Daily Science Quiz Friday 08-26-11 ***Explain your answer!***

A student sets up an experiment to see which type of light helps plants grow longer beans. He places two identical bean plants seedlings in two different trays. He plants one seedling in soil taken from his garden and one seedling in soil taken from a field. He places them under two different lights, one blue and one red. Which of these is a possible flaw that would make it difficult to draw a clear conclusion from the experiment? Daily Science Partner B Tuesday 08-30-11 ***REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!***

Daily Science (Partner B) Monday 09-26-11 ***REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!*** Analyze the data. Why do you think the cans of diet soda float but the regular soda did not.

answer The diet soda floated because its total weight is less than the regular soda making it less dense.

Daily Science (Partner A) Monday 10-03-11 ***REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!***

Answer The student wants to test HOW WILL DIFFERENT TYPES OF LIGHT AFFECT BEAN PLANTS GROWTH. A. He uses the same seeds. He should because he is not testing different types if seeds. B. He uses different lights. He should because he is testing different types of lights. C. He uses different types of soil. He should NOT because he is not testing different types of soil. He needs to keep everything the same except the IV (what he is testing). D. He uses the same type of plant. He should because he is not testing different types of plants.

Daily Science (Partner B) Tuesday 10-04-11 ***REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!***

Answer A hypothesis is a statement that is making a prediction based on research. A. This is the question that is being investigated. How will… B. This is a statement but it includes the word might. A hypothesis predicts one way of the other, no MIGHT. C. This is a statement that is predicting the relationship between the fish size and the aquarium. This is the correct answer. D. This is not a statement it is a question.

Daily Science (Partner A) Wednesday 10-5-11 ***REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!***

Answer The question: How will different angles of ramps affect the speed of a ball? A. More than one trial should always be conducted to make the results more valid. B. The question is testing angles not surface and you can only change one thing for your experiment to be valid. C. The speed did not need to be measured because they collected the time. D To keep the experiment valid the same should be used.

Daily Science (Partner B) Thursday 10-6-11 ***REMEMBER TO EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU WRITE ANYTHING!***

Answer The question is… How will bleach added to detergent affect stains? You are looking for a testable hypothesis. You can eliminate 2 of them right of the bat because they are questions not statements! (Letters B and C) 32% of you picked letter C So you are left with A and D. A does not compare anything while D does. So letter D is the correct answer. 66% of you picked letter D
