3 According to The Center for Educational Reform (2012) in 2010 there were approximately 3,219,458 teachers in public schools; 456,270 teachers in private schools; and 146, 630 teachers in Catholic schools. Using this information, it is clear that almost 4,000,000 have decided to enter teaching. There must be many attractions to this profession.

4 John Seinbeck (1912) expressed his opinion of teaching: I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit. In this quotation, Steinbeck demonstrates his belief that teachers have immense influence on the thoughts and well-being of others. He expresses his belief that teachers are very important to the success of a society. This belief has helped many people decide to join the teaching profession.

5 “Mrs. Bailey was my English teacher. I loved her. I was the younger sister of an already very successful big sister, and that was a cloud over my head too. She held my hand and brought me into the sun with her love of the English language. She recommended books just to me, she made me feel special and I just couldn’t get enough of her. She changed my life.” I am sharing the story of how my teacher played such a crucial role in helping me determine who I was and who I wanted to be. Teachers play such an important role in the lives of children that it is necessary the profession be full of highly qualified, highly motivated people.

6  Explain the hook that you just used and why it matters. Example: This anecdote makes it clear that teaching is a career that offers personal fulfillment for the teacher and the student.

7  Write one or two sentences that summarize your entire paper. These sentences do not have to list individual topics, but they should clearly help the reader understand what is coming in the paper. Example: Tour society depends on teachers to helpp us improve. Before choosing a career like this is important to know this profession’s responsibilities, the qualifications, the benefits and drawbacks and the impact on society.
