2 Rhodes is the largest island of the Dodecanese and the fourth largest island in the Aegean. More generally, is the fourth largest island in Greece, while its population is 163,476 inhabitants. Located about 460 kilometers southeast of Athens and 18 km southwest of Turkey. The city of Rhodes is the capital of the eponymous island of the Dodecanese Prefecture. The agglomerations of Rhodes (Municipality of Rhodes, Kalithea and Ialysos) has a permanent population of about 120,000 inhabitants (2001), while the Municipality of Rhodes, by the phenomenon of internal migration in recent years, has estimated that approximately 98,000 residents. According to the latest census (2001) but the city of Rhodes is officially 53,709 inhabitants and is the largest city in the Aegean Sea (census 2001).

4 THE OLD PORT OF COLOSSUS

5 The Colossus of Rhodes is considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was a huge in size statue which depicts the sun god. Thanks erected by the student Lysippos Lindos in the 3rd century BC Had approximately the same size as the Statue of Liberty in New York, while relying on lower base. The face of the statue is said that it seemed the entrance to the port of Rhodes

6 THE VALLEY WITH THE BUTTERFLIES

7 The Valley of the Butterflies is a unique natural park, which appear every year thousands of colorful butterflies from mid June to late September. Some of these are very rare and found in few places around the world. Within the valley there are ponds, shady paths that traverse the forest, wooden bridges in various parts of the small river Pelekanos and a restaurant overlooking a waterfall and a foam source. There are also stone stairs that lead to the Monastery of Our Lady Kalopetra located just above the green valley.

9 The Palace of the Knights or Castello is located in the northwestern part of the medieval town of Rhodes at the top of the castle and is perhaps the most important monument of the period of the knights.
