2 40 community members were contacted and about 20 responded to our invitation to this meeting!  Mrs. Schneider, Superintendent  Mr. Jeff McPheron, Principal  Mrs. Michele Meyer, Reading Specialist  Mrs. Sybil Koenig, Grade 3 Teacher/Adult Volunteer Coordinator Our community makes the difference!

3 THANK YOU FOR JOINING US! Project MORE (Mentoring in Ohio for Reading Excellence) is about helping kids who are at risk of reading failure. Project MORE has been making positive differences in reading achievement since 1999. Research consistently reports that students with specific learning disabilities make month for month reading level gains when they are 1:1 reading mentored four times/week for 30 minutes.

5 "We are finally pitching the ball where the students can hit it!" "This program helps establish relationships which break down non- academic barriers to student learning! Students then can have academic success." THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!

6 HERE’S YOUR INVITATION! WHO?  YOU!  We contacted adult and student volunteers we knew would have a positive impact on students and as a result the students’ reading scores would increase. men·tor m ɛ n t ɔ r, -tər/ [men-tawr, -ter] –noun 1. a wise and trusted counselor or teacher. 2. an influential senior sponsor or supporter.  STUDENTS  We have identified 6 students (1 st & 2 nd Graders) who are at-risk of reading failure.

7 WHAT?  Mentor one student at least one day a week for 30 minutes.  Materials are prepared and provided for you.  We will have materials selected…you just mentor.  Session usually consists of reading activity, game and reading a book.  First few weeks is get-to-know-you time. HERE’S YOUR INVITATION!

8 WHERE?  Start here…find a location suitable for your student.  We will help you decide – classroom, cafeteria, library, hallway, tutoring room, or outside.  Options are available! HERE’S YOUR INVITATION!

9 WHEN?  Project MORE time is set from 10:45-11:15.  You choose the day or days that work best in your schedule.  You are welcome to volunteer 1 time a week or 4 times a week.  Substitutes are available. HERE’S YOUR INVITATION!
