2. Diamante Poetry Diamante poems derive their name from the Italian word for diamond. They are diamond-shaped poems with 7 lines. They do not have to rhyme. A diamante poem uses specific types of words such as gerunds (-ing), adjectives, and nouns. It can be about one topic, but most commonly, it contains two opposite topics.

3. Prewriting Start by brainstorming a topic and then think of the opposite. Place the topics in your graphic organizer. Then fill up the organizer using adjectives, gerunds and nouns that are all synonyms of the two topics.

7. Diamante Poetry A diamante is… –a poem that is seven lines long –it is written in a diamond shape –it follows a specific pattern using parts of speech to describe either synonyms or antonyms (typically antonyms) –the end result is either contrasting or comparing two words in the form of poetry
