Opto-Electric Guitar Pickup Multidisciplinary Senior Design I RIT Spring/Fall 13323

Project Background Replace traditional electromagnetic-based pick ups with photo-electronic one Create aftermarket photo-electronic pickup for acoustic guitar Objectives: – Detection of fundamental tones – Ability to switch between digital and analog processing paths – Maintain original structure and functionality of the guitar

Outline – Detailed Design Review Team Members Waveform Measurements Updated Block Diagram Schematics Mechanical Drawings Updated Risk Assessment Bill Of Materials Test Plan & MSD II Schedule

Team Members Rachel Arquette (Project Manager) (EE) Caroline Lichtenberger (Lead Engineer) (EE) Joe Mauger (EE) Christopher Perry (EE) Christopher Steele (ME) Paul Hoops (EE) Ye Kuang (EE)

Waveform Measurements See Attachment #1 Sensor Output includes baseband content Microphone Reading shows broader spikes (See especially the second spike below) Sensor OutputMicrophone Reading

Schedule of MSD II Suggested Timeline ->

Schedule of MSD II Adjusted Timeline ->

Test Plan – Iterative Mechanical: Finalize a functional adjustable harness system for processors and sensors Analog: Simulate final values; document experimental waveform outputs; compare to simulated and digital Digital: Document waveform outputs; compare to analog Misc. Electrical: Design and order PCB’s, assemble, employ guitarist to test both data paths through electric amplifier
