3  1798 -ADHD started when Sir Alexander Crichton described it as a mental restlessness  1922- symptoms that we associate with ADD were given the name Post-Encephalitic Behavior Disorder  1937- Dr. Charles Bradley introduced the use of stimulants in children who were hyperactive  1956- Ritalin was introduced  1987- ADD was changed to ADHD  1999- kids with ADHD can receive education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

5 A person with ADHD may have some or all of the following symptoms:  difficulty paying attention to details and tendency to make careless mistakes in school or other activities; producing work that is often messy and careless  easily distracted by irrelevant stimuli and frequently interrupting ongoing tasks to attend to trivial noises or events that are usually ignored by others  inability to sustain attention on tasks or activities  difficulty finishing schoolwork or paperwork or performing tasks that require concentration  frequent shifts from one uncompleted activity to another

In fact different protocol are used by different medical professionals in coming to a diagnosis. Some use a battery of expensive tests, while others merely use rating scales or go through a checklist. Understand that it's entirely possible for your child to be given a diagnosis of ADHD, when, in fact, he is just a high energy kid who is easily distracted. 9  Make sure the child is not seated by the window or door ( easily distracted)  Created a behavior plan  Reduce the interruptions for children with ADHD  Take measures to break down and reinforce instructions, and redirect when necessary  Make learning fun/ be creative  Help the child stay organized
