5 Existing Technologies TranStar system currently utilizes a combination of RFID (Transcore) and radar (Wavetronix) for travel time and speed information (over 450 combined)

11 AWAM vs Toll Tags To benchmark performance, The Bluetooth-based AWAM system was installed alongside a probe-based toll tag (AVI) system. In this recent comparison, AWAM is collecting more data samples than the alternative technology. This effort repeated a previous examination where, the AWAM samples were ~ 85% of the AVI matches. Thus illustrating that the apparent number of Bluetooth enabled devices (in discoverable mode) are actually increasing, not decreasing. 11

14 University Transportation Center for Mobility (UTCM) Funding was obtained for experimentation to test field hardened components and antenna configurations Once identified, those components were deployed for further data comparisons Deployments have been accomplished with the cooperation of City of Houston and TxDOT

17 Based on our experience with AVI a new Bluetooth read & process method was desired to increase efficiency and accuracy Asynchronous I/O – the AWAM Advantage –As soon as a MAC address is read it is uniquely sent for processing and time stamped (or stored locally) –Enables more MAC address reads –Enables for more MAC address matches Field Software Enhancements –Duplicates can be identified and handled locally before sending back to host –Reduces bandwidth requirements (critical for cellular data transmission methods, particularly when paired with other ITS elements)
