Jeremiah 1:4-10 The Call of Jeremiah 4 The word of the L ORD came to me, saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Question: Question: What are the four “I” phrases God uses?

Jeremiah 1:4-10 The Call of Jeremiah 4 The word of the L ORD came to me, saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Question: What is God calling Jeremiah to be and to do?

Jeremiah 1:4-10 The Call of Jeremiah 4 The word of the L ORD came to me, saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Question: Question: What do these “I” phrases tell us about our relationship with God?

Jeremiah 1:4-10 6 “Alas, Sovereign L ORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” Question: What was Jeremiah’s response to God? Has someone ever told you were too young to do something?

Jeremiah 1:4-10 7 But the L ORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the L ORD. Question: What promises does God give Jeremiah? God makes these same promises to us.

Jeremiah 1:4-10 9 Then the L ORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” Think: How do the lyrics of the next song relate to the story of Jeremiah?

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry. All who dwell in deepest sin My hand will save. Here I Am, Lord

I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go, Lord, If you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people's pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away.

I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go, Lord, If you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame. I will set a feast for them. My hand will save.

Finest bread I will provide Till their hearts be satisfied. I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go, Lord, If you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

Song Reflection How did the song relate to the story of Jeremiah?

Confession L: Let us make a confession of our sins. C: Merciful Father, we poor sinners confess that we are guilty of our sins. We sin when we tell lies, steal, hurt others and don’t do the things that you want us to. Our sins are committed by our own hands. Lord, we are sorry and seek your forgiveness.

Forgiveness L: Our loving Father sees our pain and the pain we give to others. Christ lived, died, and rose again, so that there would be forgiveness to replace the hurts of our lives. Through the love and grace of Christ, we are forgiven. C: May we go out into the world knowing we are completely forgiven and that you will guide our thoughts and actions so that we can be your hands. Amen!

Apostles’ Creed The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
