2  The Hickman Mills School District provided summer school in the core academic areas of Communication Arts, Mathematics, Science, and social Studies. All teachers are required to hold a valid Missouri Teacher’s Certificate.  Student attendance is monitored on a daily basis.  Differentiated instruction that is individualized to the student will assist with increasing performance scores. The students will have the opportunity to utilize technology.

3  The extended school year is for special education students that meet the state requirement of serious regression as determined by the IEP Team.  The extended school year at Baptiste had one hundred and twenty-one students enrolled.  The students had the opportunity to participate in many learning opportunities that are focused on their individualized goals and objectives.

Attendance for Monday thru Thursday, the first week of summer school was 94.20% Total enrollment for the last day of Summer School 2013 was 1,918 students (difference of 79) with 100 certified employees and 1 substitute teacher. Attendance was 93.61%

6  There were minimal transportation issues reported during the first two days of school mainly because parents had changed addresses and failed to notify the district transportation office. Transportation

7  On Thursday June 13, 2013 a gas line was struck and ruptured (Missouri Gas Energy) near Ingels Elementary in which the students and faculty were evacuated and moved to Ruskin High School where they were accommodated into classrooms on the 1 st floor. The students were dismissed from Ruskin and were transported home. A bus transported faculty and students who were walkers back to Ingels.  Where they were able to walk home. An all clear was given by the end of the day for the students to return to Ingels on Friday June 14, 2013.  On Tuesday June 18, 2013 another gas line was struck and ruptured near Smith-Hale School in which the gas was shut off for the remainder of the school day. Lunch sacks were brought in for students prior to lunch. After consulting with MGE it was determined it was not necessary for the school to be evacuated. Gas was turned back on prior to the end of the school day. All student waiting list were depleted prior to the end of the last week of Summer School.

8  Summer School Director and Principals conducted informal observations and/or walk-through’s at each school and classroom  Any concerns regarding teacher instructional practices or guided and independent practice were addressed  A variety of instructional methods and strategies such as hands on activities, cooperative learning, guided practice/modeling, and differentiated instruction were observed.  Use of technology at all sites was observed  Students participated in field trips

9 LOCAL FARMERS & KC HEALTHY KIDS Local Farmers & KC Healthy Kids paid a visit to ESY students on June 26 th at the Baptiste Educational Center.
