2 NICE NSP guidance Planning, needs assessment and community engagement LSPs, PCTs and D(A)ATS should –Consult people who inject drugs when planning NSPs –Consult local communities –Use this information to ensure NSP services meet local need –During consultations with local communities: - promote the benefits of the service - actively involve communities NICE recommends

4 Issues raised by stakeholders Community consultation Consultation may unfairly highlight presence of NSPs Potential for resistance from local communities Will the decision to proceed with the scheme be affected? Who are the key leads that weight/make this decision? Objections to new NSP may come via planning routes
