3   Passive voice verbs are used when the subject is being acted upon in a sentence.  Example : The book is being read by John  “is being read ” are considered passive because they indicate that the subject (book) is receiving an action. Definition

4   Active: S + am/is/are + V-ing + O  Passive: O + am/is/are + being +PP + by + S Example :  John is reading the book  The book is being read by John  The students are cleaning the room at the moment  The room is being cleaned by the students at the moment Present Continuous Tense

5   Active: S + was/were + V-ing + O  Passive: O + was/were + being + PP + by + S Example :  John was reading the book last night  The book was being read by John last night  The students are cleaning the room yesterday morning  The room is being cleaned by the students yesterday morning Past Continuous Tense

6   Active: S + will/shall + V + O  Passive: O + will/shall + be + PP + by + S Example :  John will read the book tonight  The book will be read by John tonight  The students will clean the room  The room will be cleaned by the students Simple Future Tense

7   Active: S + will/shall + be + V-ing + O  Passive: O + will/shall + be + being + PP + by + S Example :  John will be reading the book  The book will be being read by John  The students will be cleaning the room  The room will be being cleaned by the student Future Continuous Tense

8   Active: S + will/shall + have + V 3 ed + O  Passive: O + will/shall + have + been + PP + by + S Example :  John will have read the book last night  The book will have been read by John last night  The students will have cleaned the room  The room will have been cleaned by the students Future Perfect Tense

9   Perfect progressive verb forms are generally used in active voice only. Note These are good English sentence ------------------------------------------- They have been speaking English. They had been speaking English They will have been speaking English. But sentences like these are rarely used ---------------------------------------------  English has being spoken.  English had been spoken.  English will have been spoken.

10  1.John the Fool will be training the bear for the royal show. The bear will be being trained by John the Fool for the royal show 2.Simony is baking apple pie. Apple pie is being baked by Simona. 3.He was telling me a strange story. I was being told a strange story. 4.I will not be playing the doll The doll will not be being played. 5.Sharyl will have met them before I get there tomorrow. They will have been met by Sharyl before I get there tomorrow. Exercises Change the active into passive.
