Reception Training Summer Abroad: A European Adventure

Greeters  One greeter will be outside the entrance to Festival to show guests which direction to go to get to our event! An idea of what to say to the incoming guests would be: “Bonjour! Your European tour awaits this way!”  Another greeter will be in the area near the ballroom to help guide guests to the stairs or elevator that will lead them to our event.  The last greeter will be located at the base of the stairs to point out where the registration tables are.

Registration  Our registration is actually customs where our guests can pick up their train ticket to embark on the rest of their journey through Europe.  We will have their tickets spread out on the table in alphabetical order for them to find, but they may need help!  “Bonjour! Welcome to France! May I have the name of the people in your party?”  There will be two staff members at each registration table. One person will greet the guest and help them find their ticket, while the other checks off the name of each guest on the list provided.

Coat Check  If our guests choose to leave their coats with us they can do so by giving their coat to the appropriate staff member.  The staff member will take a numbered ticket and rip it in half. One half will go to the guest and the other will go on the hanger with the correct coat.  It is important to tell the guest to hold on to their ticket.  At the end of the event the guests should be able to hand the staff member their ticket and receive the corresponding coat.

Photo Opportunity  There will be a large Eiffel Tower prop for guests to take pictures with. They will also have the choice of using fake mustaches provided to add comedy to the photo.  If you are working this station, you will be trained on how to take pictures with the camera provided.  Ask the guests that walk by if they would like their picture taken with the Eiffel Tower.  Stand behind the camera and take pictures for the guests.  After the picture has been taken, inform the guests that the pictures will be uploaded to the European Adventure’s website after the event.

Action Station  The action station will feature fondue! There will be a cheat sheet that informs the staff members what is in the fondue and what the items that are being dipped in the fondue are called.  Ask each guest what they want on their skewer, place the correct items on the skewer, and dip it in the fondue.  Place the final product onto a plate provided and hand back to the guest.  “Thank you and enjoy!”

Drink Station  There will be a cheat sheet provided to the staff members so that they are well informed of what the drinks are and what is in them.  One staff member will fill the corresponding cups with the correct drink.  The other two staff members should greet guests as they approach the drink station, and be ready to answer any questions.  Each staff member at this station will have an opportunity to try each drink so that they are able to provide their own personal opinion of each drink!

Servers  There will be a cheat sheet in the satellite kitchen for the servers to refer to. This will provide information on what each hors d’oeuvre is and what is in them.  The servers should walk around the reception area and pass out designated hors d’oeuvres with napkins.  All servers need to know what it is they are serving so that they are able to answer any questions the guests may have.  When the platter is down to three hors d’oeuvres, the server should go back to the satellite kitchen for more!

Bussers  Bussers are responsible for collecting trash from the guests, drink station, action stations, and cocktail tables. This will be done using an empty tray.  Bussers should walk around the reception area collecting trash from the guests. If you see a guest with trash, ask if you can take it off their hands.
