‘Achieve your Dream’

Starter Imagine you have been poor all your life but today you have been given a chance by a charity organisation to make your dream come true What is your dream that you wish would come true? How will it change your life?

‘Achieve your Dreams’ ‘ Achieve your Dreams’ is a charity that was set up to make young people’s lives better. There are so many pressures on young people today – exams, worries about their lives, the need to do well and fit in – that they saw a real need to make good things happen.

‘ Achieve your Dreams’ was set up in 1997 by a group of businessmen and women. They wanted to help young people reach their dreams, in order to have happier lives. They have the money and the people to make things happen for you! There are many celebrities and businesses that sign on to help ‘Achieve your Dreams’.

For example… They helped Rachel dance on stage in the West End in a performance of the ballet ‘Swan Lake’. She had always wanted to be a dancer, and she says that the experience made her ‘determined to go for her dreams’. Paul asked for the chance to fly with the Red Arrows. He took part in an air show and says that ‘his feet still haven’t touched the ground!’ Colette had her chance to go on safari and see elephants in their natural habitat: ‘I’ve always been mad o elephants and to have the chance to see them in the wild was a dream come true!’

TASK Your task is to write a 100 word typed letter (dream)to the people at ‘Achieve your Dreams’ and inspire them with your dream. You will be asked to pitch your dream to Miss Ashley, who will then decide whether or not to grant you your dream. You will be assessed on: Your ability to write imaginative, interesting and thoughtful sentences. Your ability to organize and present whole sentences effectively. Your ability to verbally present to the class using good vocal projection and expression.

To help you… Consider… Something you’ve always wanted to do, or would like to try. This could be something you’ve seen on TV, in movies, or read about. You could do something like learn a new skill, such as snowboarding, canoeing, abseiling a building, skydiving, etc. Your dream is entirely up to you.

Your application must… Tell us about you. Who you are, where you live. Tell us how you spend your time; what do you like doing etc. What do you plan to do in the future. What is your dream, and why? What would you like us to help you achieve? Who would you like to be involved? Would you want your friends and family to come along? Make me believe that this is what you really want to do: give me reasons why I should pick you above all the other applicants! Good Luck!!!
