What is an angle?  An angle a figure formed by 2 rays (arms)that meat at the vertex. Angles are measured in degrees.

Acute angles  An acute angle is an angle that is less than 90 degrees.

Obtuse Angles  An obtuse angle is an angle that has a measurement higher then 90 degrees but lower then 180 degrees.

Right angle  A right angle is an angle that is 90 degrees exactly.

Straight angle  A straight angle is an angle that is only 180 degrees.

Estimating Angles  There are many different ways you can estimate angles but one way you can estimate an angle is just using a piece of paper.  You fold a papers corner to the bottom where it should be a lined with the bottom and there you have a 45, 135 and a 90 degree right angle.

The Protractor A protractor is an instrument used to measure angles. A protractor has a outer scale, inner scale, midpoint, baseline and degrees on it. The outer scale is the outer diameter of the of the outside scale of the protractor. The inner scale is the inner diameter of the inside scale of the protractor. The baseline is the bottom line of the protractor is used to make the measure exact.

Measuring Angles Measure angles is very easy this is what you have to do. First a line your midpoint and baseline with the vertex a degree angle and the ray of your angle. One of the rays is on the 180 degree line and the other ray is on the 60 degree line. In the picture below you see an a acute angle.

Drawing a Angle  How do you draw an angle? Well the first thing you do is you draw a tiny dot which will be the vertex. The second step is to draw a 180 degree line connecting to the vertex. The last step is say you were drawing a 60 degree angle you would measure 60 degrees with a protractor then you would do a little line and then take the protractor off and connect the line to the vertex.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4- 3oXmgBsM&safety_mode=true&persist_safety_mode =1&safe=active http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4- 3oXmgBsM&safety_mode=true&persist_safety_mode =1&safe=active

Successes  One thing that I did well in the angles unit was estimating angles I was 1 or 2 numbers off.  My favorite part in angles unit was learning about the angles that was fun.

Challenges and Next Steps  I had challenges with drawing angle because the lines I made weren’t always straight. I will try to make my lines straighter net time.

Thanks for listening to my power point presentation hope you learned a little about angles!
