5 Common Core State Standards The CCSS are K-12 academic standards in Mathematics and English language arts/literacy. CCSS focus on fewer concepts in mathematics and English Language arts/literacy so that students can learn at greater depth and mastery. Connecticut is one of the states that has adopted CCSS. 8 Everyday Mathematics SPS uses the Everyday Mathematics Program aligned to CCSS. Problem solving Addition and Subtraction Place value Time and Money Measurement and estimation Represent and interpret data (graphs) Shapes and attributes All Second Graders are expected to be fluent in addition and subtraction facts through 10 at the beginning of the year. Please practice over the summer!

11 Testing Information EM unit assessments DRA Fall September 4-28 (Level 18) Winter January 15-February 13 (Level 24) Spring April 22-May 17 (Level 28 NF) The Spring Benchmark Level 28 NF is the first written response on the DRA 2. The reason that the benchmark numbers are closer is because the differences between levels are much larger (oral vs. written retelling) !

12 Homework Math Read every night Reading homework TBD Homework is to be completed by your child with your supervision and assistance as necessary. Homework is an extension of classwork!
