Bellwork 1. Grab the lyrics from the front table 2. Read through the lines and come up with questions or comments on what you think the lines mean. Yes-the whole song-you don’t need to repeat the chorus!

2 nd Reading Son of Man by Phil Collins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-udx1ojowws

Connotation vs Denotation  Words can have several meanings.  The literal meanings, the denotation, are direct, realistic, and often found in the dictionary.  What the word suggests or implies, the connotation, is symbolic, culturally constructed, and often influences the interpretation of poetry or literature.

Examples of Connotation and Denotation  For example, the denotations of the word snake might be "reptile," "scaly," or "without legs." Connotations of the word, however, might include "treachery," "evil," or "betrayal."

Prove that each line reinforces your interpretation... What proves your comments? Oh, the power to be strong And the wisdom to be wise All these things will come to you in time On this journey that you're making There'll be answers that you'll seek And it's you who'll climb the mountain It's you who'll reach the peak Asking someone to be strong and wise? Not really asking person to climb a mountain. Learn as you get older-journey=life Through the whole song he is talking about growing up and becoming a better person- with age comes education Climbing a mountain is a metaphor for life and it’s struggles Journey is defined as: a traveling from one place to another, usually taking a rather long time; trip. Which is a basic definition of life as well. Telling you to wait for it.
