2. A is for … Athletes: For having the courage and the braveness to compete in the Winter Olympics. And for giving all of their time to training to be as great as they can be.

3. B is for… Biathlon: A mixed sport involving both down hill skiing and aiming at a target. One of the many athletes that plays biathlon is Sandine Bailly.

4. C is for … Curling: A fun sport that has been around for more than 500 years! Men’s Curling was first time in the Winter Olympics at Chamonix, France in 1924.

5. D is for… Madeleine Dupont: Is from Denmark and she is here (in Canada, Vancouver) to play curling in the Olympics. Did you know one of her hobbies are spending time with her friends?

6. E is for… Elena Antonova: Has been doing cross-country skiing for a long time. She lives in Kazakhstan and is 38. Elena celebrates her birthday on April 22.

7. F is for… Figure skating: Is in the Olympics. This event is for both men and women. Lots of ways to get points include: axles, spins, twirls, and lifts (played by the man).

8. G is for… Gold medals: Are made of a least six grams of gold in them. In 1904 was the first time ever that the gold medal was awarded as a first place prize in the Olympics.

9. H is for… History: The wonderful athletes are making Winter Olympic history as we speak. Sang-Hwa Lee, has already make Olympic history by winning a gold medal. 1950’s

10. I is for … Ice rink: Is a thick sheet if ice that is used to play hockey and many more activities. Figure Skating and Speed Skating are other activities that require an ice rink too.

11. J is for … Jamaica: Back in 1988 Jamaica had a bobsled team and their sled “Cool Running”. At the final event they crashed and didn’t get the gold. It amazed everyone when they walked with their heads held high after the cash.

12. K is for … Kendall Brown: A Snowboarder who is from New Zealand. She will be taking place in the Winter Olympics this year. Kendall is a twenty year old lady and who was born on August 15, 1989.

13. L is for… Loonies: This year The Royal Canadian Mint is making coins for sports in the Olympics. These sports include curling, figure skating, hockey an biathlon.

14. M is for… Martin Brodeur: Is a goalie playing in the Olympics this year in team Canada. He has been coached by Jacques Lemaire.

15. N is for… Nodar Kumaritashvili : Was a very young man (21), who is from Georgia and died on Friday 14, 2010. His death was from a crash on his luge practice in the morning.

16. O is for … Olympic Rings: Represent the countries and their national flags. The Olympic Flag with the rings on it was first made in 1914.

17. P is for … Pakistan : A small country who is in the Olympics this year. They only have one athlete -Abbas Muhammad.

18. Q is for … Quatchi: Is one of the Olympic Mascots for 2010. He is a Sasquatch and loves the colour “chill blue!” His dream for the future is to become a famous hockey goalie!

19. R is for … Russia : Is a BIG country in the Winter Olympics this year. Nikita Nriukov ( from Russia) is in 5 th p lace and is doing cross-country skiing. He has won a gold medal!

20. S is for … Sidney Crosby: Sidney Crosby is a great hockey player who plays in the NHL. This year he’s been doing such a good job at hockey that he is able to participate in the Vancouver, Canada 2010 Winter Olympics.

21. T is for … Torch: The torch is one of the symbols that represents the Winter Olympics. When they finally got to the Vancouver Olympics they made a bigger torch in the middle of the stage. Did you know it’s made out of plastic!?

22. U is for … United States: The United States is located underneath Canada. Did you know that there are lots of athletes from the U.S.? They have enough Olympians for there to be an athlete from U.S. in every sport!

23. V is for … Vanessa James: A beautiful figure skater from France. She is 22 and was born in 1987. She is very lucky to be figure skating in the Olympics this year.

24. W is for … Hayley Wickenheiser: Is a hockey player on team Canada. She was born on August 12, 1878. In her four year of being at the Olympics she has gotten four medals in total (3 gold and 1 silver).

25. X is for … Xavier De le Rue : Is one of the snowboarders from France. Did you know he’s birthday is on Canada Day?! He also likes to surf and climbing too!

26. Y is for … Nikki Yanofsky: Is a 16 year old girl. She has accomplished the making of a great song called “I Believe”, which she made for the 2010 Winter Olympics. That wonderful song has been played several times in the Olympics. Nikki was born on February 8, 1994.

27. Z is for … Luiza Zlotkowska: Is from Poland and does speed skating. She has won one bronze medal! Did you know she love to ride her mom’s bike?
