He played the guitar with a steady beat.

7. Amazing Words Beat- a unit of time or accent in music
A waltz has three beats to the measure. The best dance music has a good beat.
fiddle- another word for a violin
He pulled his bow across the strings of his fiddle.

8. Main Idea The most important idea that the author wants to get across
Smaller pieces of information that support, explain, or tell more about the main idea are called details
In “Aretha: An American Queen” let’s read the first paragraph.
The second and third sentences seem close to the main idea.

The next tells about her early teens.
The fourth paragraph tells what happened after she turned eighteen.
The last paragraph is about 1987.
