Assistive Technology Demo Jennifer Elfering SPE-545 Brain Pop

Why I chose this technology I chose this technology because it is something we use regularly with the Special Education students that I work with that is also used in the general education classroom. I had not thought of all of the ways to use Brain Pop with the students I work with. I like it because all students like to use it- not just the students in special education. It’s fun!

What is Brain Pop? Videos in all subjects areas (Science, Social Studies, Math, Health, Art, English, Technology) Brian Pop Jr. (K-3 rd grade) Brain Pop (3 rd grade – high school)

How Brain Pop can be used in Special Education Offers a way to pre-teach a lesson to a individual student Introduces difficult vocabulary before a new lesson Reinforces what has already been taught Provides a way for the students to test themselves on what they have learned by taking a quiz at the end of a lesson Students can earn badges and awards for their achievements All topics feature offer closed captioning and sound Offers activities for multiple learning styles (encourages writing, drawing and talking about their ideas) Uses graphic organizers Use of word walls for vocabulary

Constraints Would need access to I pad or I pod or computer. There is not an option to have the questions read to the student in the quizzes The robot can become annoying. Subscription is expensive

Cost Annual Subscription Rates: Classroom Version (3 computers) $145 for Brain Pop of Brain Pop Jr. or $300 for both. School Version (access for all teachers, students & parents) $1,200 for Brain Pop or Brain Pop Jr. or $2,095 for both.

Snapshots: Use in the classroom

Snapshots: Use at home

Questions? What other ways do you think you could use Brian Pop to help the students that you currently work with? Are there any reasons that you would not use this technology in your classroom?
