8 Rough Draft In lesson 38, we learned about planning to write an opinion piece. We used an idea web to organize our ideas. Now we will begin the second step in the writing process called a rough draft.

9 Rough Draft When you first begin writing, do not worry about making mistakes. You are just writing the rough draft. After you have written this first draft, you can make corrections and changes. For now, just write.

10 Rough Draft Here are some things to keep in mind when writing. Stay on topic. Include all the important details. Use complete sentences.

11 Rough Draft I will show you an example of how I would write a rough draft. The first thing I will do is look over the idea web I created in lesson 38.

Kitty Hawk is a very famous coastal town because the Wright brothers flew the first airplane there. The Appalachian Mountains are also in North carolina.

14 Rough Draft Can you see how I used my idea web to create my rough draft? Now it's your turn. Get out your own idea web from lesson 38 or create a new one before you get started.
