Pangea How many original supercontinents were there? There was only one. It was called Pangea. Pangea

HAZARD MAP Why do you think California has more earthquakes than Florida? In what hazard zone are you located? I think it is because California is on a fault line and Florida is not. We have a 2-4 chance of having a earthquake.

BIGGEST EARTHQUAKE What was the biggest earthquake in history? Shaanxi China earthquake was the biggest. It happened in Shaanxi China and it was a magnitude 8 earthquake. 830,000 people died. It happened on 01/23/1556 Shaanxi China earthquake

TSUNAMIS What are tsunamis? What causes them and how fast do they travel? A large wave They are caused by earthquakes and underwater volcanoes. They move at 500mp (800km) per hour tsunami

SEISMOLOGY What applications does seismology have besides measuring the magnitude of earthquakes? It can be used in geophysical exploration to locate layers of density. They use it to find oil. It can also be used to show the interior of the earth and its structure.

SCIENTISTS Can scientists predict earthquakes? No, but they can get a pretty good guess where they are going to happen. They can tell because of plate tectonics.

SCIENTISTS How do scientists know where an earthquake actually occurred? They use machines called seismographs
