1 Rosa Parks “The First lady Of The Civil Rights movement”

2 When was she born? Rosa Parks was born in February 4, 1914 in Tuskegee, Alabama.

3 What is she known for? In Montgomery, Alabama in 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give her bus seat to a white man. Black people were treated differently because people thought they were different. She was arrested. Black people had to sit in the back of the bus and if there was not enough seats for the white to sit on the bus driver could tell them to stand up and give their seats to the white people.

4 The Montgomery Bus Boycott
People got mad that Rosa Parks got arrested so they decided to not ride buses as a protest. This is called The Montgomery Bus Boycott.

5 Marriage Rosa married Raymond Parks in 1932.
They did not have children. Raymond Parks died in 1977 because of cancer.

6 Later life She got fired from her job as a seamstress and could not get a job. She moved to Detroit, Michigan. She got dedicated to civil rights questions and became a secretary at the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of colored people).

7 Prizes Rosa Parks received: NAACP’s 1979 Spingam Medal
Presidential Medal of Freedom Congressional Gold Medal

8 Death Rosa Parks died October 24, 2005
She was the first woman and non-U.S. governmental person to lie in honor at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. She was 92 years old.
