GeoPass Single Sign-on for distributed Geoinformatics systems Sze-Ling Chan, Dion Ridley, Kerstin Lehnert

What is GeoPass?  Secure single sign-on authentication system  Allows multiple web applications and applications to use a single user directory  Provides a seamless user experience across peer GeoPass integrated sites.

Why do we use GeoPass?  Users do not have to log in multiple times to access different web applications  Ability to communicate with peer website by cross referencing the same users.  Need a simple authentication system for your website but do not want to build your own

How does it work?  GeoPass is built on top of JOSSO – a open source Java based single sign-on solution  Provides a plug-in for integrating web applications to GeoPass  Provides REST services for integrating applications not residing on the same web server.

GeoPass DevKit  Plug & play  Currently available for pHp  Plug-ins for other languages (e.g. Java) will be developed

GeoPass DevKit StepTypeDescription 1check user browses website. website makes a call to devkit requesting user information and it is not found. Site can display a link for the user to log in to access the site. 2click user clicks on the link and site redirects the user to the devkit which redirects to GeoPass with information of where to return the user to if they authenticate. 3auth user enters their credentials into geopass. Upon successful authentication josso generates a token tied to that users data and redirects the user back to the devkit on external server and the devkit stores the token and other request information in the users session. 4return the devkit successfully forwards the user back to the page they came from and the page/site is now aware of the user and has access to any of the data made available from GeoPass. The external site can now display "Welcome back, ", etc.

Current GeoPass Systems  System for Earth Sample Registration (SESAR)  Geochemical Resource Library  GEOCHRON  Marine Geoscience Data System  panMetaDocs (eSciDoc)  Scientific Drilling Database at GFZ (Germany)  GeoStrat
