Begins to select a focus and an organizational pattern based on purpose, genre, expectations, audience, and length. f. Begins to use specific sensory details (e.g., strong verbs, adjectives) to enhance descriptive effect.

9  Diamante poem- a diamond shaped poem, centered around one specific topic. There are seven lines, and each line uses a group of nouns, adjectives, or action verbs.  During the drafting stage, we will use the ideas we generated in the prewriting stage to write our poem. Using the prewriting graphic organizer, students will choose the most descriptive words to go in the corresponding blank in the drafting graphic organizer.

10  As a class, students will complete a diamante poem. While looking at the list of words from the prewriting activity, students will choose words that are most descriptive. Then, students will write these words in the corresponding blanks to form the class diamante poem.

11  Using the prewriting graphic organizer, students will independently complete their draft of the diamante poem.
