TEK 1) Scientific processes. The student, for at least 40% of instructional time, conducts field and laboratory investigations using safe, environmentally appropriate, and ethical practices. The student is expected to: (A) demonstrate safe practices during field and laboratory investigations; and (B) make wise choices in the use and conservation of resources and the disposal or recycling of materials.

What safety procedures should be done in a chmistry lab? The working area should be kept clean at all times to prevent any accidents from happening. The proper attire should be worn. Dont touch chemicals with your hands, use rubber gloves. Always wear safety goggles and an apron. Clean all spills immediatly. Know how to use all safety equipment and where it is located. Never taste or smell chemicals

What are some of the materials needed when working in a chemistry lab? Safety Goggles and Lab Coats are used to keep chemicals from harming your eyes and skin. Bunsen Burners are used for heating. Beakers are containers for liquid. Test Tubes are to hold small amounts of material. Test Tube Racks are to hold test tubes in an up right position. Funnels get liquids into containers without spilling. Graduated Cylinders are for exact measurement of volume. Flasks are used for testing reactions.

What is the proper way to handle chemicals? Treat all chemicals as if theyre hazardous Be aware of the chemicals you are useing. Always read the labels carefully twice before using them. Never put left over chemicals back into the bottle, dispose of them properly. Always dilute acids in water.

What is the proper way to handle equipment? Never point test tubes or anything that is being heated towards yourself or anyone. Dont ever leave burners unattended or leave the gas on.

What you do incase of a fire? If your clothing catches fire, drop to the floor, roll and call for help. If a chemical catches on fire, cover the flames with a piece of glassware, if possible. If possible, use a fire extinguisher to put the fire out. Do not put water on any chemical fire because it will spread the fire. If the fire is large, do not take chances leave the lab and the building immediately. You should pull the fire alarm and call 911. If the fire alarm goes off, leave the room and exit the building.

What to do if you spill chemicals on yourself? Rinse the are with soap and water. Do not use any other chemical unless instructed to. If the are stays red get medical attention.
