3 What does NPS Senior Army Representative do? Senior Army advocate with administration & local activities; Disseminate Army issues and policies to students; Support good order & discipline of all Army personnel; Rater for Most Academic Efficiency Reports (AERs); Single point of contact for Army issues; Educate & inform Army potential students about NPS; Direct students toward relevant Army and Joint theses; Senior advocate with HRC and gaining units; Teach, coach, advice & mentor: Open Door policy.

4 The Army at NPS NPS: –A significant part of the ~1,666 Military officer Student Body –25+ retired Army on faculty –Fellowships from AWC, USMA, … TRAC-Monterey (TRADOC Analysis Center) –Applied research organization for military modeling, simulation, and analysis. –TRAC is a great source for relevant thesis topics! Intermediate Level Education (ILE) – ongoing –Working to get ILE here to support Army Officers on a yearly basis (currently for DA program students (SF, MI, PsyOP, CA) Defense Language Institute/POM: Language courses are available --- watch for announcements –Contact SAR

15 Administrative Points Be on time. Be prepared. Be professional. Uniform –Daily: Business casual (no jeans, no sneakers, shirts must have collars!) –Casual clothes do not mean casual behavior. You are not an undergrad! –Uniform Tuesday is Uniform Day: Class B (Winter SGL: Class A) & for the SECNAV Guest Lecturer (SGL) APFT DO IT! You need to keep standards, & Reduce Stress! Accountability –Muster daily (VIA WEB LOGIN): Don’t ignore this requirement! –SECNAV Guest Lectures (SGL): They are mandatory! –Personnel Asset Inventory (PAI): we do it in OCT Your mission but work with SLOs! Standards of Conduct –Remember basic military courtesy –DUI: It’s a problem in this environment –don’t drink and drive! Forms: DA-31, PAI, DA2125, DA 1059-1 (AER)

17 Academics Your Military Mission: Successfully complete your program and obtain your contracted degree. NPS is your place of duty and studying is your job: –Attend all scheduled classes and labs –Tuesdays @ 15:00 is The President’s Time –Manage your schedule, your time and your stress levels Your Thesis & Research –Start the process early –Pick a relevant Army or Joint Operational topic: Many advisors from which to choose –Publish in a professional journal –Beware of plagiarism
