1 Biology Lab Safety Rules

2 Protect Your Eyes Goggles must be worn at all times when told to do so.

3 Wear appropriate protective clothing Lab aprons can be used to protect good clothing. Loose clothing isn’t safe. Fire/Spills

4 Do not eat or drink in the lab. These are ways by which you can accidentally consume harmful chemicals

6 Do not taste any chemical!

7 Pour from large containers to smaller ones.

8 Check glassware for cracks. Why?

9 Heat test tubes at an angle. What’s wrong in the picture?

10 Handle hot glassware with gloves or beaker tongs.

11 Do not smell any chemicals directly! Smell chemicals only if your teacher specifically tells you to do so & use your hand to fan the vapor.

12 Wash your hands with soap and water before leaving.

13 Tie Back Loose Hair Dangling hair can fall into chemicals or catch fire. P.S. Burning hair REALLY STINKS!

14 Know the safety equipment Eye wash fountain Safety shower Fire extinguisher Emergency exits

15 Carry out only the experiments assigned by your teacher I wonder what he’s planning to do with that thing.

16 Never remove chemicals from the laboratory This guy put chemicals in his locker!

17 Remember that the lab is a place for serious work! Careless behavior may endanger yourself and others and will not be tolerated!

18 Demonstrate safe behavior Obey all safety instructions given by your teacher or found in you experimental procedure. Clean up spills immediately; IF you know how. If you are uncertain how to clean up a spill or if a large spill occurs, notify your teacher immediately.

23 Know where to dispose of waste Dispose of all waste materials according to your instructional procedure or your teacher’s instructions ? ? ? ?

24 Report any accidents or unsafe conditions immediately!
