LINDA’S INTERVIEWSGAP ANALYSES Task 1: DEVELOP OBJECTIVE FUNCTIONS AND INTERFACE ELEMENTS IMPORTANT TO STAKEHOLDERS Drivers, Goals, Barriers Spatial habitat datasets Task 2: DEVELOP OBJECTIVE FUNCTION AND IDENTIFY POTENTIAL LOCATIONS FOR SPECIES HABITAT IMPROVEMENTS Task 3: TEST WRESTORE DSS FOR WATERSHED AT HUC-12 INPUT Jack, This is my perception on how I think we all might connect our work! I am happy to change the task plan, once we have had more discussions…

WRESTORE AN INTRODUCTION IUPUI, Aug 29 th 2014. http://wrestore.iupui.edu/

Roadmap  What is WRESTORE ?  How does WRESTORE work ?  How can stakeholders use WRESTORE ?

What is WRESTORE ?How does WRESTORE work ?How can stakeholders use WRESTORE ?  A web-based, democratic problem-solving tool for planning conservation practices in a watershed  “crowdsourcing” planning process to the community of decision makers  Seven conservation practices: Wetlands, Filter Strips, Grassed Waterways, Crop Rotation, No-Till, Strip Cropping, Cover Crops  Watershed REstoration using Spatio-Temporal Optimization of REsources What is WRESTORE ?

 Includes  User-friendly visual interfaces,  Dynamic watershed and other environmental models, and  Interactive and participatory techniques for Exploratory personalized design Community-driven collaborative design  Currently being tested for the Eagle Creek Watershed, Indiana  Can include any other priority watershed, in the future.  Beneficiaries: land owners, government agencies, policy makers, water managers, planners, and other stakeholders. 26 Summary  Future Versions (planned for release in 2015-2016)  Pre-processing and post-processing interface for watershed communities 1. Additional options for model selection, design parameters, and criteria Allow users to design practices at more accurate field scales 2. Options for climate change analyses 3. Options for ecological impact analyses (USGS GAP analyses) 4. Options for long-term community projects  Interaction via interfaces Allow users to directly “tweak” design of practices via the interface and re-evaluate their modifications. Currently users VOTE on alternatives to help guide the search for new designs. What is WRESTORE ?How does WRESTORE work ?How can stakeholders use WRESTORE ?

Summary What is WRESTORE ?How does WRESTORE work ?How can stakeholders use WRESTORE ?  Using social network type technologies in conservation planning  Open innovation and problem-solving process  Community building and empowerment  Research  Practice: More watershed partners needed!
