7 Aberlour Child Care Trust Summary (1) Families present with complex needs, which are commonly complicated by backgrounds of deprivation. They need comprehensive assessment and provision of a range of services. Women can be helped to parent their children better by building on existing skills and abilities. Children present with their own needs which require individually- tailored services. We can enhance the ability of children to cope with adversity. Befriending services can assist resettlement into the community.

8 Aberlour Child Care Trust Summary (2) Employability provision should be an essential element of a rehabilitation programme. Fathers require consideration of their needs as parents. Respite facilities are needed to prevent family breakdown. Carers require support too. Robust outreach support to follow residential rehabilitation. Older children are at risk of developing drug & alcohol related problems. We need to involve children and families in planning and reviewing services.
