2 What is a Marionette? A marionette is a puppet that is controlled by wires and/or strings. A marionette’s puppeteer is called the manipulator.

3 History of the Marionette Puppetry has been around very, very long. Some scientists claim that puppets performed theatre before humans did. The idea of the Marionette came from Egypt as long ago as 2000 BC, when string operated wood figures were manipulated to preform kneading bread. Marionettes were buried in ancient tombs, and used at rituals and ceremonies to act out the life of the deceased person.
