LET NO ONE DECEIVE HIMSELF

Sin entered into the world when Eve was deceived by that old serpent, the devil. One of the things God hates is “a lying tongue.” No one likes to be lied to or be deceived in some fashion. But the worst deception of all is when one deceives himself. I Corinthians 3:18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. Tonight let’s talk about ways we deceive ourselves.

Minimize Our Sin Man likes to classify sin. But in the eyes of God sin is sin All sin separates us from God. Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear All sin must be repented of.

Acts 17:30-31 "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.'' I John 1:7-10 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. You are just deceiving yourself when you minimize your sin.

Thinking God Is Like Man Psalms 50:21 These things you have done, and I kept silent; You thought that I was altogether like you; But I will reprove you, And set them in order before your eyes. A common form of idolatry today is not to make a metal image of God but a mental image of God. We make a serious mistake when we try to make God like man. God is: OmnipotentOmni-present Omniscient He sees all, knows all, and has all power, might, and authority.

When some sin they think they can hide it from God. Adam and Eve could hide from each other, but they found out they could not hide from God. Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. We deceive ourselves when we think we have a better way than God. Isaiah 55:8-9 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,'' says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

When We Think God Will Be Pleased And Accept All Worship. This is a mistake many make today. God rejected Cain’s sacrifice. God told Saul through Samuel that He would rather have obedience than sacrifices. I Samuel 15:22 "Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.” God rejected the sacrifices the Jews were offering to Him in days of Malachi.

God can also reject our worship if it is not done in the right way. Joshua 24:14 "Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! God knows the hearts of all. He knows if we are worshipping Him with a sincere heart. It takes more then sincerity to offer acceptable to worship God. Being sincere is a good start.

Matthew 15:7-9 "Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: `These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' '' Hebrews 12:28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe; John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

Placing Our Faith In Tomorrow James 4:13-15 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit''; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.'' Felix seemed to be trusting in tomorrow. Acts 24:25 Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self- control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, "Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.''

When we think we have tomorrow we are deceiving ourselves. No one has the promise of tomorrow. Slaves of tomorrow! Slaves of tomorrow! What a pitiful, hopeless lot they are. Chained to tomorrow, nothing else is done; for all good intentions die in the realm of tomorrow Many have all good intention to get their life right in the sight of God. To be baptized. To confess wrong But they are waiting till tomorrow

ARE YOU WAITING FOR TOMORROW TO GET YOUR LIFE RIGHT IN THE SIGHT OF GOD?
