4 School-to-Zoo Funding Offered to King County Schools (Grades K-12) Available September -April Includes free admission and reimbursed bus transportation to all King County schools with a minimum of 30% students received free or reduced lunches

5 School-to-Zoo Programs Offered to King County Schools (Grades K-5) Available September-April Tour based programs available at 10:15am and 11:30am Tuesday through Friday Aligned with science curriculum adopted by Seattle Schools Designed to enhance science lessons Examples – Farm and Fabric, Weather and Organisms, Forest Explorers, Plant Growth, and Ecosytems

6 Zoo Experiences for Students and Teachers (ZEST) Offered to all schools (Grades K-12) Available October-April, Tuesday-Thursday Free of charge, with zoo admission Involve students in exploration of different areas of the zoo and conservation issues through on-ground experiences and, in some cases, classroom components Examples – Survival in the North, Interconnections, Tropical Rain Forest, and Endangered Species

7 Outreach Programs for Classrooms Wild Wise – multimedia presentation indoors followed by a hands-on inquiry based exploration outdoors Up CLOSE – a visit from a live animal to the classroom Teacher packets available online Discover Kits available for $25 loan fee Raptor Programs Reptile Programs

8 Resources for Educators Teacher Packets – includes background information, fact sheets, activity ideas, and resource information Zoo Visit Activity Sheets – helps to focus the students’ learning Media Resources – downloadable presentations for the classroom Zoo Edition – newsletter for educators Exhibit Information Animal Guide

9 Programs for Educators Educator Professional Development – Workshops, institutes, travel and other opportunities Master’s Degree – advanced inquiry program Educator Appreciation Day – explore the zoo for a day for FREE!
