6 5 EHEA (European Higher Education Area)  Ministry of Education and Science: - General policy framework.  Autonomous governments: - Criteria about universities course catalogues. - Approval of course catalogues.  Universities: - Proposal of course catalogues. - Development of syllabuses. PILOT SCHEMES Delay in the implementation of the EHEA process in Spanish universities

7 6 When laws related to the EHEA are passed, universities Will have a very large autonomy to define their syllabuses and the name of their degrees. Will have to account for the results by means of an evaluation and accreditation process. Will complete the implementation of the new degree system: Undergraduate (240 ECTS credits) Master’s (postgraduate courses, 60 to 120 ECTS credits) Doctorate (60 ECTS credits + thesis) Masters degrees started in 2006 - The Undergraduate courses are scheduled to start in 2008.

10 9 ECTS Fully implemented for credit transfer. Implementation for credit accumulation: in progress/ master studies: full UPC new study offer: design methodology Common agreed criteria (governing bodies-schools). Provide information about the historical development of studies. Creation of experts committees (professionals representing the knowledge areas in which the UPC is specialised). Graduate studies 2007-2008: 55 masters programmes (7 Erasmus Mundus, 10 in English). Doctorate studies : adaptation to the EHEA in progress.

19 18 Information dissemination about the reform process Since 2002, the UPC has organized and participated in numerous conferences, seminars, meetings and all kind of events dealing with the EHEA. Our website includes a section about the EHEA. We need to make internal communication more effective: explaining clearly to the staff the principles, elements and benefits of the change. And the most important thing: we have to provide information to students and to society.
